You live under a rock, don’t you?
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Garfield Minus Garfield yet (and if not, why not? That rock you live under must be wonderfully entertaining!), you need to do so before you become completely culturally irrelevant. No really… go. You can also check out the book at a local retailer (totally worth it in my opinion). And while you’re at it, you should check out the other phenomenon, FML. This weekend Jack and I picked up the book while braving the insanity that was Arundel Mills Mall, and had more than a few laughs. It’s not rocket science, and it’s not something I’d buy for my new e-reader (HA! I totally have the best boyfriend in the world… more on that soon), but it’s definitely good, mindless, “at least my life isn’t THAT bad” kind of fun. You know.. reality TV kind of fun. PostSecret kind of fun, but less deep.
I’m aware that most resolutions don’t ever stick, but I’ve done some pre-thinking and planning to hopefully ensure that I can hold myself to those resolutions:
- I’ve quit smoking. Again.
I started Chantix again before the holidays, and this time I’m excited to be free of it for good. It’s not easy, and the medicine still gives me insane dreams (Y’all, I dreamed about a village of magical and mystical things, and where I watched one person shoot a baby bald eagle, and another trap a vulture. This was followed by a series of blobs of color being chased by marbles. I know it makes no sense, especially when you add to that the fact that snow crashed down on the back porch of one of these houses like a tidal wave, but that’s what happens when I take this medicine. My 80’s “kids” movie inspired imagination has always been a huge problem when it comes to my dreams, and this medicine just amplifies them. But I’m trying, and it’s going very, very well thus far.
- I have 9 months to lose 30 pounds.
I’ve also set a goal of getting myself back in to shape before my youngest brother’s wedding in September. That’s 9 months. That’s plenty of time for me to lose the 25-30 lbs that mysteriously appeared on my body over the past year. Honestly, losing 20 lbs would probably be my healthiest option, and working on getting my body toned again would help. I’ve never done this before, so wish me luck. I have Wii Steve to guide me on my attempt, and to humiliate me at every chance he gets (like saying “ouch” when I step on the Wii board…. bastard! ). I’ll likely need your help in this one more than anything else. See? When you weren’t looking I just ate 5 sugar cookies! No really… they were in the cafe at work for us… I have no will power.
- I’m going to read more.
Coming from me that might sound odd, but I haven’t had a chance to read a fraction as much as I used to. I haven’t had a chance to review much of anything, and I haven’t had a chance to even write criticism or commentary on book world news. Contentment makes you lazy. Well… it makes me lazy, at least. But Jack gave me a Sony eReader for Christmas, and I’ve already finished a book on there, so hopefully it makes the transporting of my reading material less painful and clunky! Have I mentioned how much I love that eReader?!
- I’m going to blog more regularly again.
Check, and check. I’m off to an okay start so far! I considered NaBloPoMo to get me back in to things for January, but I’d like to try it just on my own. I also have to start reading my RSS feeds again. I opened Google Reader for the first time in months and the staggering numbers almost blinded me. I’m so behind… but that’s going to change, y’all! I’m back baby! I also have a million and a half comic book posts to write that have been lingering and gnawing at me every time I pick up a new issue! Talk about fast paced writing and reading! I love it, and it’s only right that I share that with you…
So there you have it, folks. I hope your holidays were full of family and friends and love and laughter!
