@Michael: It's very much worth it! It's in spanish, but don't let that scare you away. I think it somehow makes it more touching that way! I can't wait to hear what you think!

@Cindy: I agree totally! Double Indemnity and The Maltese Falcon are two of my favorite films. I'm a huge Chandler fan, and I wish studios would go back to that kind of style more often. The Ice Harvest was in that style, but it was wrapped up with a neat little bow at the end. I'll just have to settle for the classics!

A lot of noirs are tragic in a classic sense. Think of The Maltese Falcon or Chinatown, for example. Double Indemnity. The Postman Always Rings Twice. I could go on. I love film noir for precisely this reason.

Well, that and the fact the sets, clothes, and performances are often also awesome.

Bridge to Terabithia is my 2nd favorite film! Cry every time I watch it. And it's the only book I have two copies of on my shelves. Though of your list the only one I've seen as yet. I have been wanting to watch Pan's Labyrinth for a while, but haven't run across it at the library where I normally get DVDs from. Since you say it's good enough, I'll just buy it when I run across it next.
